So its always a quandary buying candy. Should we buy with the kids in mind or ourselves? Should we go for bulk or mix and match? If we don’t want to get tempted then tootsie rolls and Dots are a good investment. However if we indulge in Whoppers, Snickers or M&M’s, then the hope is that the kids don’t show up, which means more for us.
Another question to consider is whether you are happier distributing the candy or receiving it. Personally, I enjoy watching my kids load up on candy more than I enjoy waiting around to answer the doorbell. I don’t know why but I can’t stand the experience of getting up, answering the door and passing out candy. I know some people enjoy seeing how cute kids are in their costumes-not me. I guess I’m a curmudgeon when it comes to Halloween.
I think there is something about knowing that teens are going to be joining in on the festivities. And they often come to the door with a mask in hand and shaving cream on their coats simply to collect some fuel before egging your house. I think their hyped teenage energy freaks me out. I really think Halloween should be restricted to kids under 10. If you can grow facial hair, you shouldn’t be knocking on doors asking for candy.
To address this concern of mine, I was thinking about hiring a homeless guy to sit on the porch with or without costume to scare the kids and distribute candy. Isn’t that the point of Halloween?
